Naughty, the kitten from the pound. Her personality channels a distilled spirit of pure evil. Among the many things she hates are bat-eared dogs. Her greatest joys are chasing laser pointers and anything shaped like a weasel.

This was a good dog. He once ran about a quarter mile down a rice-check, swam fifty yards out through an ice skim, and brought back a dead Canada goose that some hunters had shot. They were pissed, but also awed. He once scared a burglar away from the inside of the house by scurrying around with his tail down, growling.

There used to be a bigger teepee burner to the left of where he's standing, but in the wintertime a destitute family would come and live in it, and when it got snowy like this they'd break into the house in the far background and borrow blankets. So the land-owners sold the big teepee burner to some miners from downriver, who cut it up and used it to build sluiceways.
